Before his Ibiza Rocks gig with Florence and the Machine and The Drums, we caught up with Ibiza regular DJ Kissy Sell Out to talk about the White Isle, what makes Ibiza Rocks so special and what he thinks is the ultimate party tune on the island.

Q: What’s the best thing about Ibiza?

A: I’m not quite sure yet, there’s a lot going on here. I think there’s a real magic in the air.  You have this soup of magical elements that hit you straight away whether it’s the billboards you see when you come off the plane, of all the DJ’s, I think that’s so cool. I do so much travelling and you don’t get that anywhere else. Or it’s just the amazing crowds you play to where there’s this awesome balance of people coming for the music and for a great time. You don’t seem to get that anywhere else. I think it’s magic!

Q: As you’re a regular to the White Isle, do you have a particular song that reminds you of your time spent on the island?

A: I don’t know really, I had this funny moment like in the film Kevin & Perry Go Large. I remember watching that as a kid and then year’s later, I made my mum watch that film and said “I did that! I was on that stage”. So, much as I dislike trance music, maybe it would be some kind of trance tune but every time you come here it’s different. That’s the great thing about how Ibiza’s changing.

Q: You’re sharing the same stage as The Drums and Florence and the Machine tonight, are you a fan of their music?

A: I’m a massive fan! The Drums in particular, I know that Florence is the big headliner, I think she’s wonderful, she’s one of the most talented singers I’ve ever come across but The Drums’ album set me on fire. I thought Let’s Go Surfing was a cracking tune. I was supporting them on my radio show for a long time when it just came out on a Kitsune compilation, I just love the sound. I think having The Drums, Florence and the Machine and then having me at the end of that is mad, I feel very humble to be included.

Q: You’ve played Ibiza Rocks before, what makes you keep coming back?

I think Ibiza Rocks embodies something which is really important allowing different genres of music to share the same stage, it’s crazy that I can go on before Florence and play the type of music I play!  The crowds will just take what you throw at them, to see that happening in Ibiza where it’s such an important place for Dance music, historically, I think Ibiza Rocks has really nailed it.

A: Having just played V Festival how do you think the crowd will differ here in Ibiza?

I think there’s a lot more patience actually. You still get a bosh bosh bosh element when you do a lot of festivals but there is a magical element in the air when you play Ibiza, it feels more people are proud to be there in the first place and as a DJ you’re quite excited to be there as well. I’ve talked to DJs who I  consider to be really famous and they still really giggle when they find out they are going to Ibiza in comparison to some of the bigger festivals. It’s different.

Q: After the gig tonight are you planning on partying?

A: I have to DJ in the Ibiza Rocks bar and I’m playing the after party at Es Paradis as well. I don’t have much time for partying, especially when I am only here for like 12 hours or something like that which does make it more exciting as you have an excuse to quickly zip up your bag and get on the plane. It’s gonna be fun tonight.

Q: Your name is Kissy Sell Out so who do you think has sold out this  year or who do you tip for success?

Well, I’m not going to say who has sold out as I don’t like being horrible but there is a fantastic band who I saw in Oz a few years ago called Art Vs. Science which is funny as came through as an unsigned band and they have become the biggest band in Australia and because I have done a few tours in Australia I have seen the progress they have made. I just saw them in Kings Cross a few month ago and they are so cool and I am all about the music and liking every single song and being in that situation where you will do anything to be involved and to be a part of that thing that’s happening and if Art Vs. Science come through next year and get to play Ibiza Rocks would be fantastic. I have done one remix for them and want to do another one, I was like that with The Noisettes, just totally devoted to them as that’s what music is all about right?
