Kanye West has written a song for 20-year-old country singer Taylor Swift.

It’s been nearly a year since the rapper invaded the stage when Taylor was accepting the award for Best Female Video at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York. In the now infamous incident, Kanye grabbed the mic from Taylor and protested that Beyoncé should have won.

But now he’s trying to make amends by penning a track for the Love Story singer. "I wrote a song for Taylor Swift that's so beautiful and I want her to have it," he said on his Twitter on Saturday night. "If she won't take it then I'll perform it for her."

In a stream of more than a dozen tweets, the rapper apologised for interrupting Taylor and insisted he had learnt from his mistake. “It is distasteful to cut people off as a general rule. What's the point of dressing tastefully if I'm going to act the complete opposite?” Kanye wrote. “When I woke up from the crazy nightmare I looked in the mirror and said GROW UP KANYE... I take the responsibility for my actions.

“I am not a bad person. Even in that moment I was only trying to do good but people don't always need my help,” he added. “Beyonce didn't need that. MTV didn't need that and Taylor and her family friends and fans definitely didn't want or need that.”

Kanye ended his apology with “I’m sorry Taylor”. The pair will come face to face at his year’s VMAs on September 12.
