Russell Brand and Katy Perry are trying to persuade renowned miserabilist Morrissey to sing at their wedding, even though he’s warned them off getting hitched!

British comic Russ is a big fan and friend of the former frontman for The Smiths and introduced his girlfriend to his music when they first met.

Asked by Q Magazine what band will play at their wedding Katy explained “It’s going to be a small ceremony, so I don’t think we’ll have a proper band. I’d love to have Morrissey.

“I met him for the first time the other day and we had tea together. He’s Russell’s mate and he is fascinating but he was giving us a hard time over getting married.

“He swooned and sighed ‘oh left hand third finger, don’t do it.’ It was just so eloquent and poetic and like one of his songs.”

The California Gurls singer added: “It would be great to have him at the ceremony but he’s not exactly entering into the spirit. I said, ‘We can’t have a Mr Misery like you messing things up.’”

Katy and Russ have both been busy recently with Perry filming the video for her new single Teenage Dream and Russ shooting new film Arthur.
