Kelly Clarkson: "People Think I'm Gay"

The star claims people believe she's a lesbian because she isn't married...

Kelly Clarkson has confessed that people from her hometown of Burleson, Texas, think she's a lesbian because she isn't married.

The original American Idol champion, who addressed rumours concerning her sexuality on US TV show The View, went on to claim that she's always considered her career more important than her relationships.

Clarkson explained: "I'm from a small town, so everyone's married with children or about to have children. It's a little hard when you go home and people are like - and that's why people think I'm gay - because they're like, 'Why aren't you married?' And I'm like, 'It doesn't happen for everyone right off the bat!'"

As well as dismissing the accusations, the Mr Know It All singer added that there is plenty of time for romance in the future, stating: "I think it's my purpose, music. I might not want to do this when I'm 50, so I might as well do as much of it now."

Earlier this week, the 29-year old admitted that she has never been in love, telling USA Today: "I've never experienced certain things, and I think that's because I have this side of me that is shut off, because I haven't found anybody yet to open to that I feel like, 'Okay, you're worth breaking down that wall for.' I've never found that."
