Lady GaGa has spoken exclusively to MTV UK about the inspiration behind her hit single Judas, explaining that one of her “a**hole” ex-boyfriends motivated her to pen the controversial tune.

Roberts quizzed GaGa about how she came to write such an anthem like Judas, to which the Poker Face hitmaker explained: “I’ve had lots of ex-boyfriends betray me – a**holes, we all have them – and in particular there was one who loved Judas Priest, loved heavy metal.”

“Originally I began to write the song about an ex-lover, who betrayed me, who loved heavy metal music and then as I started to write the lyrics, I thought about Judas and the biblical implications and how Judas was the betrayer.”

The 25-year old continued: “Once the song was finished and I thought about what I wanted to do with the video, in reality of the story of Judas, he didn’t really betray Christ because he was part of the prophecy and Jesus knew that he would betray him – it was all part of the destiny of life.”

“So I thought of a more beautiful and liberating way to tackle the message of the song – we attack the idea by saying my ex-boyfriend betrayed me and this person in my life haunts me but I forgive them and we’ll move on to make room for what’s good.”

After briefly mentioning the video for Judas, GaGa went on to address the promo further, telling Nicola: “I’m planning on directing more videos in the future.”

“I’ve always written the treatments for all of my videos but this was the first time that the House of GaGa really fully functioned as a factory and just went ahead and did it all.”

The Telephone singer continued: “I’m so proud of it (Judas), it’s beautiful and really triumphant because it was the first time that we’ve had a video rack up so many views and had so much impact since Bad Romance – it’s been out for a week and already had 25 million views.”

GaGa went on to tease the promo for her next single, The Edge Of Glory, stating: “They’re not ready for The Edge of Glory video though, I’ve already wrote the treatment for that and it’s my favourite.”
