Leona Lewis was punched in the face yesterday by a ‘crazed fan’ whilst signing copies of her new autobiography at a London bookshop.

The former X Factor winner was meeting and greeting fans at Waterstones in Piccadilly Circus to sign copies of her first book, Dreams when the incident happened.

According to The Daily Mail, the man had just had his book signed by the Bleeding Love star when he lashed out at the singer, punching Leona in the face.

Witnesses have claimed that Lewis, who is gearing up to release her second solo album Echo, cried out in pain after the attack.

Leona was then taken to hospital to see a doctor for precaution, cutting her book signing short.

A spokesman for Leona has confirmed that the singer has suffered bruising to her face.

He also stated: "Leona is absolutely gutted that she did not get the signings finished. This guy whacked her one in the face, and she was sitting down and he was standing up, so you couldn't get more cowardly."

The X-Factor star, who was visibly shaken by the attack, was forced to pull out of an appearance on the BBC’s The One Show following the assault.

Police have confirmed that they have made an arrest over the incident.
