MTV: How does it feel to be tipped for big things in 2009?

LB: Its really great, Ive heard the word tipped so much in the last two weeks. Sometimes you get the feeling its just people in the music industry saying it! All I care about is people at home and people going to my gigs. Im pleased that there are so many people into it (my music).

Who do you think will be big in 2009?

A band called Heartbreak and I think Florence (And The Machine) is really cool. Frankmusik will be big- he is my friend. And also the XX.

What was the first instrument you played?

Ive played piano since I was 5 years old- I was trained classically. I only started singing when I was a teenager. The singing is only a little bit of what I do.

What instrument do you write on?

I usually start from piano and then put synths on. Other times Ill be in the studio with someone else so it will come differently.

Who influences your music?

When I was little I used to listen to Kylie and Brandy. When I was a teenager I went to Blackpool nightclubs and listened to cheesy euro-dance. Then I got really into punk and all those bands. My solo stuff now is going back to the start- I dont have guitars on the album because I cant play them!

Who are you listening to at the moment?

The Hot Chip album Made In The Dark takes things to the next level. The Metronomy album is really good and the most recent Goldfrapp album is nice too.

Do you see yourself as part of any female electro pop movement with Ladyhawke and Lady GaGa?

They are all girls with ideas and theyve all got keyboards or electronics in the music. But just because we are the same sex its ridiculous. People always want to say there is a movement. There are tons of strong female artists but I think the comparisons are kinda silly.

How much of your album is finished?

Ive recorded about 80% of it.

Who has worked on it with you?

Joe from Hot Chip and Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen producer and co-writer)- who is about the most talented musician I know. Someone passed a demo onto Joe and he liked it. Now we do a lot of emailing songs back and forth. He has a really different sound.

What are you up to in the early part of 09?

Im finishing the album in LA in early January with Greg and a single will be out in the springtime. Im looking forward to doing a proper single and a video and seeing if people like it.
