BAFTA Winning actress Thandie Newton was stuck on the stage without a script, when Al Gore failed to materialize for a link in the States.

With nothing to say, she won the crowd over by claiming that "Coming to live earth increases our attractiveness to a potential mate about 200% - say you've come to Live Earth is a way of saying you're hung like a war lord!" Hmmm, wonder who she's been getting down with...

She went on to tell a joke about a big horse and Londoner which wasn't really that funny but she was just so gorgeous and she dealt with it all so well, it was hard not to love her for it!!

Eventually, Al Gore stepped on stage in Washington to outline his seven point pledge.

He began by thanking the Native American's who he said had always been very vocal at reminding us how we are connected to the natural world.

"In Africa they have a saying," he went on, "If you want to go quickly, go alone, if you want to go far, go together. Well we want to go far, quickly. 2 billion people are gathered, with one message!"

He then outlined his seven point pledge.

1. I pledge to demand that my country join an international treaty within the next two years that cuts global warming pollution by 90%.

2. I pledge Take personal action to reduce the climate crisis

3. I pledge to fight for a moratorium on the construction of any new facility that burns coal with out trapping the co2 it produces

4. I pledge to work to increase the energy efficiency of my home, school, workplace

5. I pledge to work for policies which will reduce the our dependencies on coal and other

6. I pledge to plant new trees

7. I pledge to buy from business who work towards sustaining the world into the 21st C.

He finished by saying "Our children and grandchildren will ask one of two questions: what were they thinking? Didn't they hear the scientists, didn't they see the evidence, were they just too greedy? Or they will ask - the one I prefer - I want them to ask how did they get the act together and find the uncommon moral courage to act together and solve the climate crisis.

Trisha Euwood and Garth Brookes then stepped onto the stage to launch the US concerts.
