Madonna's Adoption Bid Denied

Judge declines to grant the application to the 4 Minutes singer

Madonna's request to adopt Chifundo 'Mercy' James from Malawi has been denied. 

At a closed-door hearing, Judge Esmie Chondo said: ‘I must have to decline to grant the application to Madonna.'

'By removing the very safeguard that is supposed to protect our children, the courts by their pronouncements could actually facilitate trafficking of children by some unscrupulous individuals who would take advantage of the weakness of the law of the land.’ 

Reports say reason for the rejection was a law requiring adoptive parents to be resident in the country for 18-24 months. 

The 4 Minutes singer visited the country this week with the hope of adopting four-year old Mercy.
