Matt Cardle Fails To Hit Top Spot With 'Run For Your Life'

The 2010 XF winner charted in sixth place, while Rihanna remains No.1...

Matt Cardle has failed to set the Official Singles Chart alight with his new track, Run For Your Life, with the Gary Barlow penned song debuting at No.6.

The 2010 X Factor champion was unable to dethrone Rihanna and Calvin Harris' dance tune We Found Love from the top spot, as RiRi enjoyed her second week in pole position.

One Direction and Cher Lloyd, who Matt beat to The X Factor crown last year, have both scored No.1 singles, and speaking of his chart position disappointment, Cardle told The Metro: "I will just have to go back to the drawing board with it and think what happened."

The 28-year old previously admitted to MTV.co.uk that there would be no hard feelings if Rihanna prevented him from hitting the top spot, with Cardle describing the Barbadian beauty as "unstoppable."

Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera's Moves Like Jagger clung on to second place, while Gym Class Heroes featuring Adam Levine achieved the highest new entry with Stereo Hearts at No.3.

Meanwhile in the Official UK Album Chart, nineties pop group Steps blasted their way to No.1 with The Ultimate Collection - ten years after announcing their split.

The countdown also saw new entries from Evanescence, Katherine Jenkins, Jason Derulo, Ryan Adams and legendary crooner, Cliff Richard.
