Michelle Williams has revealed she sees her Best Actress nomination at The Oscars 2012 as "a testament to Marilyn's legacy."

The 31-year old has been recognised by the Academy for her role as Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn, where she will take on the likes of Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady) and Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs) in the category.

Speaking of her nomination, Williams stated: "I am so grateful to be acknowledged by the Academy for my work, which was made possible by the support of our director Simon Curtis and the camaraderie of a terrific ensemble of actors,

"A special congratulations to Kenneth Branagh - and the fearless Harvey Weinstein. This role has been the challenge and privilege of a lifetime."

Michelle added: "I would like to think that the recognition our film has received by the Academy is a testament to Marilyn's legacy."

As well as her Oscars nod, Williams has already won the Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) at The Golden Globes, and has been nominated in the Leading Actress category at the BAFTAs.

The 84th Academy Awards take place on Sunday 26 February at the Kodak Theatre, Hollywood.
