Morgan Freeman has been injured in a serious car accident in Mississippi.

In an unexpected and unfortunate occurrence, Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman was involved in a serious car accident on Sunday night.

Freeman's condition is unknown, but cops revealed that he was talking at the scene before he was taken to the hospital.

According to press reports, The Dark Knight star was said to be travelling with an unnamed female passenger just north of the small town of Ruleville at around 11.30pm when the crash occurred, with no other vehicles involved besides his own.

Freeman's car apparently went off of Highway 32 in Memphis and flipped several times.

The latest news on the incident is as follows...

- Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the car wreck.

- An unnamed woman, who was in the car, was hospitalized as well.

- Local media is reporting that Freeman may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
