Last night (Wednesday) saw MTV pitch up at the Anson Rooms in Bristol for the first of our three Spanking New nights. It also saw the first ever Spanking New Live on Overdrive.
Hosts Emma Griffiths, and Matt Willis rolled out The Hoosiers to begin with, whose quirky brand of Odd Pop made for an awesome opening to the night, as the boys smashed the heck out of the up-for it crowd!
Next up was the mad-cap inventor of Disco (apparently,) Calvin Harris, who brought fat basslines, fun lyrics and kick ass guitar licks that had booties shakin' right, left and centre.
With ace tracks like Acceptable In The 80s, Girls, and Merrymaking At Place it's easy to see why this fella is so highly rated by Kylies people. Definitely one to watch out for over the upcoming festival season.
Ex-Sugababe, Mutya stepped up next, looking mighty fine after her time out of the spotlight. A full band and backing singers helped her wow the west country crowd with new tracks Just A Life', 'Wonderful', 'Strung Out and the Lenny Kravitz inspired 'Real Girl'. She may have lost the sugars, but her voice was as sweet as ever.
For the denouement we got a Spanking New veteran, Natasha Bedingfield.
Though she's come a long way since first appearing in 2004, she's fresh back in the UK after cracking the States " and you could tell she was glad to be home. The Bristol crowd were treated to hits old and new including Unwritten, These Words and her current single I Wanna Have Your Babies'.
All in all, it was a spank-tastic way to kick off our Bristol events, and best of all it was live on Overdrive!
