Though Operator Please chose Proud- just about the worst live music venue in the country- for their debut UK show the 5 piece were still highly impressive.
At ages when most of us were behind the bike sheds these indie kids have supported both Kaiser Chiefs and Arctic Monkeys in their native Oz while theyll also play the Gonzo tour this October.
The throwaway punk-pop of Just A Song About Ping Pong is highly misleading cos overall their bass, keys, drums, guitar and violin is more inventive.
Played here at an even faster speed the irrepressible hit is obviously a lot of fun though. Even if the schmoozing audience dont join in.
Much of the attraction with the band is down to siren frontwoman Amandah- who is bound to be compared to the singers from The Gossip, Metric and Morningwood though her success could surpass them all.
Shes handy with a guitar too on Get What You Want- with its Ritalin references- where the surly bassist also comes into his own.
Crash Tragics handclaps with the five youngsters shouting the lyrics at once is instantly endearing. The manic energy displayed in their videos, is not fully evident here however but its understandable given the industry crowd and lack of a soundcheck.
The madness is sure to be back at their Reading and Leeds shows this weekend when they play to their own age range.
If you ask us these kids are definitely alright.. and have massive potential.
Bring on the Gonzo Tour!
