Pharrell Hated Stefani's Yodelling

The love-it-or-hate-it ditty came about completely by accident too...

Gwen Stefani has revealed Pharrell Williams was outraged when she mixed 'Wind It Up' up with 'The Lonely Goatherd' from The Sound Of Music.

The Neptunes man produced and featured on the track and it was originally a yodel-free zone, Gwen told MTV News.

It was only when she started experimenting that it took on its current incarnation.

She explained, "One of my biggest fantasies was to put music from The Sound Of Music to a beat. I had just worked with Pharrell, then I was going to New York to do my fashion show and I wanted to do the music so I had (DJ) Jeremy Healy do this mash up of The Sound Of Music with 'Wind it Up'."

She added, "I didnt think I was doing a new record, I didnt think it was coming out - I was just doing this mash up for the show."

However that all changed when she heard the results.

"I cried," she revealed. "I was like 'Oh my God, this is so ridiculous!' Even Pharrell didnt know I was going to put The Sound Of Music on the track I had just written. He was like, horrified!"

Well, let's just hope he grew to love it!

Gwen's new single 'Sweet Escape' is in the shops now.
