Professor Green may be gearing up to release his new single Read All About It on Sunday, but the East London rapper has exclusively admitted to MTV News that he doesn't think the song is that "chart friendly" because of it's topic.
Speaking of the track, which addresses some comments his father's widow made to the press about Pro trying to cash in on his dad's death, the 27-year old explained: "It’s weird. I didn’t make the song with hope of it charting or sitting comfortably in that realm. It just sparked something in me."
"I guess with the subject matter it’s not really a chart friendly track. It’s not what people would normally talk about on a pop song. But ultimately it kind of does fit. It’s got quite a lot of commercial appeal despite the subject matter."
He continued: "The song is entirely autobiographical. It’s all about situations that I’ve been through and continue to go through. The meaning for me, is just being entirely upfront and honest."
"You know, knowing what’s out there and just saying to people ‘It’s there, here I am'. I say in the song: ‘I won’t censor myself for anyone. All that is good, all that is bad, all it is me’ and by that I just mean to say ‘take me as I am; I’m imperfect’. I wouldn’t hold to be anything else."
Pro - real name Stephen Manderson - went on to praise Read All About It collaborator Emeli Sande, stating: "Emeil Sande was the only vocalist that could’ve worked on that song. No one else would’ve been able to convey that emotion and she absolutely killed it."
Green and Emeil are due to perform Read All About It on The X Factor results show this Sunday, making the I Need You Tonight MC the first rapper to ever perform on the ITV programme.
No pressure then Pro...
