Rihanna has revealed that she was 'drawn' to Eminem's track Love The Way You Lie because she connected with the song's reference to an abusive relationship.
The Te Amo star who sings the chorus on the collaboration with Em claims that the tune, which features lyrics such as: “I laid hands on her/I’ll never stoop so low again/I guess I don’t know my own strength" reminded her of her own experience with ex-Chris Brown.
RiRi admitted that she instantly understood the meaning behind the song after being involved in an abusive relationship with the Crawl singer after he famously attacked her last year, before the Grammy Awards.
The Rude Boy hit maker told Access Hollywood: "It’s something that, you know, we’ve both experienced... on different sides, different ends of the table."
“He (Eminem) pretty much just broke down the cycle of domestic violence and it’s something that people don’t have a lot of insight on."
She added: “I knew if he sent me a record there must be something to it. It couldn’t just be, ‘Oh, Duh! She was in that relationship so we have to get her.’ The lyrics were so deep, so beautiful and intense. It’s something that I understood, something I connected with."
Rihanna, who is set to make her acting debut in action flick Battleship shot the video with the Not Afraid rapper last week and the promo is set to get its premiere by the end of this week.
Former Transformers actress Megan Fox and Lost star Dominic Monaghan also star in the promo after rumours were proved true when the pair were caught kissing on set.
