Russell Brand will present this years MTV Video Music Awards from Los Angeles on September 7.
The British comedian has been given the prestigious honour by MTV despite being relatively unknown stateside. He starred in comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall this year but is better known in the UK for hosting MTV shows and his stand up.
No Brit has ever hosted the ceremony before but Brand will follow in the footsteps of Jack Black, Jamie Foxx and P Diddy. Jonas Brothers are the first act to be announced to play the glittery event when it kicks off in two months.
Last year performers included Britney Spears, Timbaland and Fall Out Boy.
