Stephen Gately Update

The post-mortem on the singer is set to take place...

After the shock news of Stephen Gately’s death, a post-mortem is due to be carried out on the 33 year-old's body later this week.

Despite the cause of death not being confirmed, a spokesperson for Gately’s family has ruled out any foul play claiming the Boyzone singer's death was due to natural causes.

The family of the Irish star have also stated that drugs and suicide played no part in Stephen’s death.

As Monday is a public holiday in Spain, it is believed the post-mortem into the singer’s death will commence tomorrow (Tuesday).

Gately’s former Boyzone band-mates arrived in Majorca last night and described him as ‘our friend and brother’ as well as saying he ‘lit up our lives'.

Ronan Keating and Co also released this statement: “We have shared such wonderful times together over the years and were all looking forward to sharing many more.”

They added: "Stephen was a beautiful person in both body and spirit. Our love and sympathy go out to Andrew and Stephen's family. We love you and will miss you forever."

Friend and manager Louis Walsh pulled out of The X Factor last night, while Simon Cowell paid tribute to the singer live on the talent show stating: "This is really tragic news… our thoughts are with Louis - they were incredibly close."

Gately died whilst on holiday with his long-term partner Andy Cowles.

Police aren’t currently treating his death as suspicious but are said to want to talk to a Bulgarian man who is understood to have returned to the couple’s apartment after a night out.
