The world premiere of the long-awaited The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has taken place in New Zealand.
Thousands of fans turned out in the nation's capital Wellington to see the stars of the movie walk the red carpet - with many emerging from a mock-up of a Hobbit house.
Director Peter Jackson - who was born and grew up nearby - was joined by actors Martin Freeman, Cate Blanchett, Andy Serkis, Evangeline Lilly and James Nesbitt - among others - at the event.
And lead actor Freeman told Reuters that he and Jackson had worked together on the character of Bilbo Baggins - making him lighter and more pompous than the version from the Lord Of The Rings trilogy.
"Between us - Peter and me - we hashed out another version of Bilbo," he explained. "There'll be others, but our version is this one and I hope people like it."
The film gets its UK release on 13 December - and is part of a new trilogy.
