The makers of Despicable Me, which tells the story of a villain - voiced by Carell - who tries to steal the moon have claimed that the estimated takings have surpassed expectations.
A spokesperson for Universal stated: "$30m would have been a win for the studio. I would never have said $50m-plus."
Twilight Eclipse has now made a cool $237 million since it opened and is expected to surpass its predecessor, New Moon which made $296.6 million.
A movie insider at Hollywood.com claimed: "Twilight dropped less than 50% - that's impressive to me. That's a really strong hold for a movie that, in its first day, made $68 million"
