Vanessa Hudgens is set to play an HIV positive heroin addict in a Hollywood production of the musical Rent this summer.
The actress is more used to playing a squeaky clean pupil in the High School Musical films, but it seems she wants to broaden her acting CV.
Neil Patrick Harris, who is directing the stage show at the Hollywood Bowl August 6-8, revealed to E! News:
“She came in for a work session, and I must say, Vanessa really impressed, She looks amazing, has great vocal chops and seems really committed to honouring the somewhat iconic role of Mimi.
“I look forward to audiences seeing a dark, edgy and very different side of Vanessa Hudgens.”
