Russell Brand Storms The VMAs!

The naughty, naughty host makes digs at Jonas Brothers, Bush and many more...

13:55, Monday, 8 September 2008

Russell Brand took the VMAs by storm on Sunday night with a host of controversial comments which shocked and entertained US audiences.

"Britney Spears lost her VMA virginity. Hopefully the Jonas Brothers will be next," he quipped straight after the show as he made his way to the afterparty - in reference both to Britters wining her first ever Moonman gong and the young Jonas boys purity rings.

Brand repeatedly joked about the Jonas purity rings throughout the show, which each wears as a symbol of their vow not to have premarital sex.

At one point, Brand even brandished one and claimed he had won it from a Jonas brother!

Fellow promise ring wearer Jordin Sparks hit back at Brand while presenting an award, saying:

"I just wanna say, it's not bad to wear a promise ring because not every guy and a girl wants to be a slut, OK?"

Brand apologised after the show, sort of, saying,

"I feel a bit bad that I kept talking about their vows to chastity and I'd like to take this opportunity to say no one ever have sex again. It's a mad idea. What a way to spend an evening."

Brand also got political right from the start of the show when, he opened with a monologue talking about Madonna, virgins and President Bush, whom he called "that retarded cowboy fellow."

He then pleaded, "Please, America, elect Barack Obama. On behalf of the world" to cheers from half the celeb audience, and stunned silence from the rest.

Thattaboy Russell!
