For Simon Cowell and Dermot O’Leary, tonight’s X Factor will be their last on British soil.
The Daily Mail reports that Dermot has been offered the highly sought-after hosting role on X Factor USA. James Corden looks likely to be his replacement when The X Factor returns to ITV next autumn.
As for Cowell, he had originally intended to juggle both shows but he now looks set to concentrate all his efforts on launching the US show as a rival to American Idol.
“Something’s going to happen in the next three or four months that’s going to alter my decision next year,” Simon said on Friday. “I have actually enjoyed doing this series more than any other because it’s been controversial, and that stops it being boring. As soon as you get bored, the audience get bored and there’s no show. Simple as that.”
A member of the X Factor production crew is quoted as saying Simon definitely won’t appear on next year’s show. “Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh will return, so the viewers will have a sense of continuity, but Simon’s not going to be on the show.”
As for Cheryl Cole, it’s thought she has been offered a spot on the US judging panel and will work across both shows.
