According to The Mirror, the UK show host was informed by boss Simon Cowell that he has not landed the coveted role, and instead the programme will be fronted by a “non-conventional” female superstar and a male pin-up singer.

He told the newspaper: "I am obviously disappointed that I didn’t get the American gig. I would have loved a crack at it. At least I was the only Brit to make the shortlist.”
An insider added: "It’s no reflection on Dermot. The US show is just going a different way. He is happy with the new deal, while Simon is confident he will deliver an all-star cast over in the US."
