This Week’s Must-Hear New Music Round Up: Niall Horan, Craig David, BANKS & MORE
Check out our rundown of this week's best new tracks and albums...
Niall Horan – ‘This Town’
Produced by Greg Kurstin (Adele, Ellie Goulding, Beck), this is our surprise first look at Niall Horan’s solo career. An acoustic ballad, ‘This Town’ finds Horan reminiscing about his childhood sweetheart.
Want more info? Here are some quotes from the man himself which we’ve copy and pasted from a press release: “I’m excited to announce I have signed a record deal with Capitol Records USA and released my first solo song. Thank you to all the One Direction fans for your love and support as always. I’m looking forward to the next part of this journey together.”
The Weeknd - 'False Alarm'
Faster and grittier than last week’s Daft Punk featuring ‘Starboy’, this is our next taste of The Weeknd’s upcoming album. With lyrics like "Bathroom stalls for the powdered nose," this is familiar territory subject-wise for the Canadian singer. It might not quite be a dance floor filler in the same vein as last year’s massive ‘Can’t Feel My Face’, but ‘False Alarm’, with its relentless beat and screeching chorus, is definitely a lot a of fun.
The Chainsmokers Ft. Phoebe Ryan – ‘All We Know’
They’re still running riot in the charts with ‘Closer’ (featuring Halsey), but The Chainsmokers are already back with another track. Are they trying to completely dominate the airwaves? Yes, they are. Check out their sun-drenched new cut, ‘All We Know’, below.
DNCE – ‘Body Moves’
Following ‘Cake By the Ocean’, ‘Toothbrush’ and ‘Pay My Rent’, Joe Jonas and co are back with another funky track. Want more from DNCE? Their self-titled album Is out on November 18. Pencil it in, if you want. Or don’t. It’s up to you.
Cashmere Cat Ft. Selena Gomez & Tory Lanez – ‘Trust Nobody’
If your latest single could do with a little help from your friends, you could do a lot worse than recruiting Selena Gomez and Tory Lanez to lend a hand. Norway’s Cashmere Cat recently dropped a track featuring The Weeknd (he’s everywhere that bloke) and Francis and the Lights, called ‘Wild Love’. Quite popular, this Cashmere Cat. Anyway, he’s great. Check out ‘Trust Nobody’ now.
Nathan Sykes – ‘Famous’
Announced via Facebook Live, the ‘Kiss Me Quick’ singer has gone all old-school soul on this latest tune.
Major Lazer & Showtek – ‘Believer’
They’ve been teasing this one all week, but it’s finally here (as most music is, because it’s Friday, and that’s when all these artists click ‘upload’ these days). The Diplo-led group has been riding high these past few years, and their Justin Bieber + MØ single ‘Cold Water’ hasn’t damaged their stock one bit. Listen to ‘Believer’ below.
Craig David - Following My Intuition
MTV loves Craig David. The singer has been enjoying an enormous career renaissance these past 18 months, and we couldn’t be happier about it. He’s got an arena tour coming up, but before you buy tickets for that (if you want), listen to his new album now. Make sure you do. And then go listen to Bon Iver’s new album immediately after. (Quite a lot of good new music today, isn’t there?)
Bon Iver – 22, A Million
We shared our first impressions of Bon Iver’s third album earlier this week (read that HERE), but now we’ve had another listen. Yes, it really is as beautiful and brilliant as everyone’s saying. It’s ambitious and touching. IT'S BON IVER. You’d be a fool to miss out. Go buy. Support great artists.
BANKS - The Altar
BANKS is really exciting. Her music is dark and frosty, her vocals distorted, it all sounds so claustrophobic. Take ‘Gemini Feed’ (where, in the music video, she literally has gems in her eyes) – it’s miserable but you could easily dance to it. We like it. It's interesting. It's an alternative. See what you think.
Jagwar Ma – Every Now And Then
Claiming Noel Gallagher as their most famous fan, Australian psych-dance trio Jagwar Ma are back with their second album. It’s very good. Check it.
