Nick Grimshaw Announces That He’s Leaving BBC Radio 1’s Breakfast Show

He'll be switching roles with drivetime host Greg James.

Nick Grimshaw has announced that he’s leaving Radio 1’s breakfast show after six years as host.

This Autumn, the DJ will be swapping roles with Greg James, meaning that he will instead take the reins on the drivetime slot between 4pm to 7pm.

'Let's get checking out a bunch of celebs who got real af about coping with a mental illness...'

He broke the news to his listeners live on air, admittingthat he was “really tired” and felt ready to hand over the early morning slot after becoming the second-longest serving breakfast show host in the station’s history.

“Come September, it will be six years … I’ve decided it’s time for a change, time for a new show and, most importantly, it’s going to be time for a new wake-up time … preferably about 11.30am,” he joked.

“It was always my dream to do the breakfast show and I’m very grateful that I got to live my dream every day for what will be nearly 6 years. But 6 years is a long time and this isn’t a forever job. I had the time of my life"

He later wrote on Instagram: “I'm so happy to be swapping shows with my friend and yours, Greg James, and can't wait to wake up to him each morning. Not literally. Just on the radio. Unless he's up for it."

As for Greg, he appeared on the programme while Nick was announcing his departure and said that he felt nervous but excited about the future: “I did not sleep one hour last night just thinking about it… it’s too much.”
