Yup, Nike’s Back To The Future Shoes With Power Laces WILL Go On Sale This Year

Marty McFly eat your heart out…

Back To The Future’s self-tying Power Laces have been something of an urban myth since Part II’s release in 1989, but now that we’ve arrived in 2015 – the year Marty McFly’s fancy shoes appeared in the time travelling movie – Nike have confirmed they’re almost a reality.

[related] According to Nice Kicks, Nike's innovation chief Tinker Hatfield – who was speaking at Californian trade show #AgendaEmerge – said that his team was working to deliver the Nike MAG with Power Laces in 2015. However, there are “11 and two-thirds months left in 2015″. So, presumably, we’re looking at an end-of-year release.

In February 2014, Tinker appeared at Jordan Brand’s Flight Lab in New Orleans and stated, “Are we going to see Power Laces in 2015? To that, I say yes.”

The Nike MAG was originally released minus Power Laces in 2011, with 1,500 pairs of the kicks auctioned, raising $6 million for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. You can check out the promo video for that little stunt below.

Meanwhile Nike patented its automatic lacing system back in 2010, meaning we’re probably going to be slipping our feet into self-lacing sneaks, waaaaay faster than that hoverboard we had our eye on.
