Nile Rodgers Gets Lucky With BMI Song Of The Year Award

Emeli Sandé, 1D's 'Best Song Ever' and MiCy's 'Wrecking Ball' were also honoured at the ceremony for songwriters...

Nile Rodgers and Avicii were among those honoured last night (October 13) at the BMI awards in London.

The awards are held to celebrate European songwriters who get the most airplay on US radio and TV in the months leading up to the event.

Rodgers took home the accolade of 'Song of the Year' for Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky', beating the likes of Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding to win the award.

Avicii won the coveted Dance Award for his smash hit track 'Wake Me Up', which reached the number one spot in 22 countries.

While Sir Tim Rice was given the BMI Icon Award because of his "unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers” as he joins a list of past honourees including John Lydon, Queen and Ray Davies.

Not forgetting the guy behind One Direction's 'Best Song Ever', Wayne Hector, who won a Pop Award for the catchy track he penned for the Brit boys.
