Here's How To Secure Your Fave Gamertag On Nintendo Switch Before The Console Even Comes Out
Don't let anyone else nab your username!
Have a Nintendo Switch on pre-order? Yep, us too! But even if don’t have one primed and ready to arrive (just 10 days to go!), you can still reserve your preferred username, and here’s how…
Ditching the old Nintendo Network ID system we used for Wii U and 3DS, Switch owners will have to sign up to Nintendo’s year-old online service called, imaginatively, Nintendo Online Service. Register now - securing your preferred User ID as you do so - and you can select your favourite nickname now, before someone else comes along and nabs it.
And don’t forget, signing up to the new subscription service - which should be much cheaper than the PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live sub (and will be free initially!) - will give you online lobby and voice chat, a monthly NES or SNES game for free each month, as well as bonus offers and discounts in the Ninty online store.
Well: eventually. All of that’s due to release sometime later in 2017, which is why the service will initially be free.
You’ll also have all future purchases locked to your ID and not your system, which - in theory - makes it much, much easier to upgrade/change consoles and keep your content.
The Nintendo Switch is available from March 3, 2017 and seriously, we cannot wait. Speaking of which… did you know Zelda: Breath of the Wild has gone gold now?
