The Nintendo Switch Uses Your Phone Like No Other Console Before

Here's how the Nintendo app works.

If you’ve not already pre-ordered your Nintendo Switch for when it launches on3rd March, you may struggle as it’s already selling out. If you *do* get one then have your phone close by as that’s what you’ll need for multiplayer chat...

The Switch will offer an online multiplayer mode, for a subscription price. With that you'll also geta dedicated app for your phone that’ll make online chat simple.

The idea is to have the chat part of gaming run through your phone. This could be a good idea as it’ll use your phone’s data connection, your phone’s headphones rather than a big gaming headset and it will save on the Switch's battery.

Of course they could all alsobe seen as negatives if you don’t want to use your phone’s data, or want to save smartphone battery life. But it’s defoa new idea.

Nintendo talks on its official site about the advantage of the dedicated app: “Our new dedicated smart device app will connect to Nintendo Switch and let you invite friends to play online, set play appointments, and chat with friends during online matches in compatible games ─ all from your smart device. A free, limited version of this app will be available for download in summer 2017.”

We’ll have to wait and see if this is a hit or a miss - but like the console itself this is a ground-breaking idea that could change up mobile gaming as we know it.
