Blondie To Be Honoured With Godlike Genius Gong At NME Awards
Leading lady Debbie Harry says it is "flattering" to have won the accolade...
Blondie are set to receive the Godlike Genius gong at this year's NME Awards.
The Heart of Glass band - who are due to celebrate their 40th anniversary later this year - will be honoured with the accolade at the magazine's ceremony on February 26.
Previous winners of the award include Ozzy Osbourne, U2 and Noel Gallagher - making Blondie the first US act to take home the trophy.
Lead singer Debbie Harry said of their win: "It's out of proportion, but it's nice to be recognised.
"I find it particularly interesting that there aren't many Americans who've been given this award before, so that's flattering."
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind
Once I had a love and it was divine
Soon found out I was losing my mind
Seemed like the real thing but I was so blind
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind
In between what I find is pleasing and I'm feeling fine
Love is so confusing
There's no peace of mind
If I fear I'm losing you it's just no good
You teasing like you do
Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind
Lost inside, adorable illusion
And I cannot hide
I'm the one you're using
Please don't push me aside
We coulda made it cruising, yeah
Yeah, riding high on love's true bluish light
Ooh, ooh, whoa, oh
Ooh, ooh, whoa, oh
Ooh, ooh, whoa, oh
Ooh, ooh, whoa, oh
Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind
In between what I find is pleasing and I'm feeling fine
Love is so confusing
There's no peace of mind
If I fear I'm losing you it's just no good
You teasing like you do
NME editor Mike Williams added: "They rewrote the rule book in the late '70s by dragging punk rock to the top of the charts", while also branding Harry "the most iconic front-woman rock 'n' roll has ever produced".
Blondie are set to grace the stage at the bash, which is to be held in Brixton, South London.
