It turns out the theme of Netflix's new rom-com, Sierra Burgess Is A Loser, is pretty close to home for Noah Centineo, and that's because he's been a victim of catfishing IRL.

If you haven't had a chance to catch SBIAL yet, which also stars Stranger Things' Shannon Purser, then first of all, what are you waiting for? And secondly, let us inform you that it's a rom-com about a girl called Sierra (Purser) who starts texting Jamey (Centineo), but the whole time she lets Jamey think he's talking to a cheerleader he met once called Veronica (Kristine Froseth).

Okay, that's as spoiler-free as we can go in our synopsis. But you get the gist, it's largely about catfishing.

And the To All The Boys I've Loved Before star recently opened up about his own experience of being tricked into thinking the person he was talking to on social media was someone else entirely.

In aYoung Hollywoodclip, he revealed: “I developed this, like, what I thought was like, you know, an intimate relationship with someone. And we were just like talking and really getting to know each other, and it turned out that they just were not who I thought they were."

He added: “I still don't know to this day who they were."

Which obviously means that the person who catfished Noah could well still be out there doing the same things to others.

Noah previously opened up about his catfishing experience in an interview with Buzzfeed, telling them: "It happened a year and a half ago... I met someone on Instagram and I developed an ostensibly intimate relationship with them and it turns out they weren’t who they were."

We just hope that they see the video and realise it's a pretty sucky thing to do, just like *spoiler alert* Sierra does in the film.
