Bond Girl Interview

Olga Kurylenko tells MTV News why she and Daniel Craig didn’t go ‘all the way’…

It's taken 48 years and 23 films but finally a Olga Kurylenko aka Camille in the franchise's most recent instalment Quantum of Solace and MTV News tracked down the Ukranian hottie to find out exactly how she did it….

For this bond film you had to take on some massive action scenes, and tough stunt work, how did you find that? Was it something you enjoyed?
I enjoyed it, yeah, it was so much fun!I definitely got better, from the moment I started until the end, you know, six months later I was totally different.I had more endurance - I was stronger, I could do amazing things. In the beginning it was tough, I got there and it was four hours of fight training a day. It was very hard.
Camille is a different type of Bond girl, she doesn’t wear much make-up, she gets roughed up a lot….. Is that something that attracted you to this part?
Yeah, I thought it was interesting how she was strong and how she was independent, and she had her own story, you know, she wasn’t there just as jewellery. She was a character and she had her own mission, she had, stuff to do, and that’s what attracted me. I did like that she was kind of tough and real. I didn’t really want to play a doll. But she’s a real person. Yeah.
Bond and Camille, they get intimate, but not that intimate. Are you surprised that that wasn’t in the script?
I’m actually happy that it wasn’t in the script, I mean not that I minded, I just think it’s very good, it’s a very good thing to differ, this movie from the others because and it never really happened. I guess he was probably involved with all the bond girls before, in a relationship. Yeah, she’s probably only one of very few or maybe the only one who he doesn’t really you know, have a romantic relationship with. I think it’s good, I think the character is all about something else, and it’s good and it’s different.
Some of the biggest scenes involved you and Daniel working very closely together, particularly on things like the boat chase sequence, and the desert sequences. What was it like shooting those scenes in particular?
Well the boat scene was really intense, really kind of, scary, you know, there was a lot of adrenaline, thing is you have no choice, you know you have to go on the boat. Just when they were screaming ‘…hold on’, It was kind of terrifying. I was like, ‘Why? Why hold on?! What’s going to happen?’ You had to try to not fall out of the boat and they would just speed, they go so fast and crash into other boats. This was like yeah, I’ve never been in anything like it, it was totally different, and an amazing experience, yeah. Now that I look back I think it was fun, but on the day it was quite intense.
And the amazing desert scenes they used for the movie posters?
Oh the desert scene, it was beautiful, I love the desert, it’s my favourite place, the favourite landscape of the whole film. I was totally amazed by the beauty of the desert in Chile.
Finally, what music are you into?
I always listen to all kinds of different music from different years. I listen to the contemporary, but once in a while into eighties, you know just for fun, and sometimes classical too. So I have this big mix on my i-pod… Amy Winehouse, Gwen Stefani, OutKast, Jay-Z.I listen to trance, pop, everything. It really depends on my mood.
Quantum Of Solace is out on DVD and Blu-Ray on March 23rd
