Olly Murs Calls Himself A 'Plonker' After Extremely Awkward X Factor Blunder

#awks

In last night's The X Factor (15 Nov) Olly Murs got a bit ahead of himself when announcing who was leaving the show.

The TVshow host announced that Monica Michael would be leaving the competition, before it was officially decided by the judges - which isjust a little bit awkward, really…

Monica was in the sing-off against Anton Stephans witheach judge voting for who they would like to kick off the show.

Simon Cowell and Nick Grimshaw chose to save Anton, whereas Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Rita Ora voted to keep Monica in the show. If we're doing our maths correctly, that's two votes each, right Olly?

The poor lad got a little bit excited and announced that Monica was the next contestant to leave, saying: "So just to clarify I did say we'd go to deadlock but unfortunately Monica you are going home I'm afraid."

Quick to cover up Olly's huge blunder, co-host Caroline Flack jumped in and said they were still going to deadlock before announcing that Monica was actually the one to be leaving the show.

Later the star took to Twitter to apologise for his on screen blunder:

Quick to defend the pop-star's actions,Olly's predecessor Dermot O'Leary tweeted his support:

He also told Olly to keep his head up to which the singer replied, callinghimself a 'plonker':

As well as loads of other television presenters, co-host Caroline Flack took to Twitter to stick up for Olly, saying:

Whilst Twitter was ablaze with angry viewers saying Olly should get the sack, we can't help but agree with Piers Morgan's tweet on the subject:
