Olly Murs Reveals He’s Writing With Robbie Williams
The dapper duo have already toured together…
It’s not your usual day job, but Olly Murs has revealed he can’t wait to start writing for his new album because he’s “looking forward to having some normality”.
Olly, who last night sang a duet with Robbie Williams at the Royal Variety Performance, told the Daily Star that one of the normal things he’s looking forward to is “going to the pub with my mates”.
Among those mates is Take That star Robbie. The two have already collaborated once on The Jungle Book song I Wan’na Be Like You for Robbie’s Swing Both Ways album, which went to number 1 last weekend, and have plans to work together again, this time on an original track. “Robbie’s songs are rockier than mine – I’m more funk, disco and reggae,” said Murs. “But we both always try to change, and that’s the beauty of us songwriting together.”
Given their diverse range of musical interests, the number of potential ideas for a collaboration are endless. “We could come up with anything – an uptempo song like Troublemaker, a swing song where it’s cheeky and fun or a big rock song like Let Me Entertain You,” suggested the Hand on Heart singer, adding: “I could never stick to one genre, it’s boring.”
Either way, Olly, who supported Williams on his summer tour, is excited to explore a new direction on the new record. “I’ve changed musically with every album,” he said. “I don’t see why the next one can’t sound a bit more mature and cooler.”
