One Direction have made US chart history with their third album, The Monkees in 1967 to have their first three albums to top the chart.

Harry, Niall, Louis, Zayn and Liam managed to shift a cool 546,000 copies of the record, beating their previous album, Take Me Home, by 6,000 copies after it topped the chart in November 2012.

Their debut LP, Up All Night, also hit the top spot back in March 2012 after selling 176,000 copies.

Speaking of their achievement, Hazza tweeted: "Thank you so much to everyone who bought the album, you're incredible. And we are nothing without you, I am very very happy today."

1D are currently in New York ahead of their appearance on Saturday Night Live, with their co-host Paul Rudd releasing an excitable promo clip of him 'fan-girling' over the boyband.
