1D Recieve Special Disc After Hitting 12 Million Sales
Liam says the lads are 'ecstatic' with their latest achievement...
One Directionhave been honoured with a special disc by record label SyCo and Sony Music after notching up 12 million sales worldwide in less than a year - including eight million singles, three million albums and a million DVDs.
The X Factor group's debut album Up All Night has hit No.1 in 16 different countries - including the USA, where they became the first ever UK band to top the US Billboard chart making it the top selling debut album of the year in the country.
Also in America, Up All Night has been certified platinum with over one million sales, while What Makes You Beautiful has shifted over three million copies in the US and five million worldwide.
In the UK, Up All Night is at double platinum status, with their DVD becoming the biggest selling music DVD of the year.
According to The Sun, the lads' huge sales figures mean Brit greats Arctic Monkeys, Mumford & Sons, Kasabian, Maccabees, Vaccines and Noel Gallagher’s combined sales fall short of their latest achievement.
Speaking of their success, 1D member Liam Payne said: “We are obviously ecstatic and incredibly humbled by our award today.
"We have an incredible team of people around us who have helped us achieve this and above all we would like to thank our fans. We owe all our success to them.”
The lads are set to perform at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards on 6th September, where they have also been nominated for two Moonmen.
