Demi Lovato has denied rumours that she is dating One Direction heartthrob surfaced when he told a US radio show that he wasn't sure what was "going to happen" with the former Disney star.

But to the relief of Directioners everywhere, Lovato has insisted they're just good friends.

Asked if she is dating the 1D singer in an X Factor promo video, Demi replied: "No, I'm not.

"He's really sweet and he's one of my really good friends now. But I'm single at the moment and I plan to be for a long time because I need to focus on my career and myself and my wellbeing before I think about getting in a relationship with anyone."
