With it having been announced that Zayn Malik has quit the One Direction tour early, we can't help but wonder if this is the end for the band after one too many headline hitting moments.

Zayn was 'forced to sit out' from the group's video link acceptance speech at the MTV EMA in 2014 'due to illness', though Directioners had other ideas as to his whereabouts.

While he has alsobeen busy working with Naughty Boy in the studio on music that isn't anything to do with One Direction, perhaps hinting at going solo?

Zayn was also the only one not to attend Louis' mum Johannah's wedding, instead spending the day with his fiancé Perrie, sparking rumours that things weren't all smiles in the 1D camp.

A source previously told the Sunday People at the end of last year: "Zayn is fed up with the whole fame thing. He loves singing and his fans but he just wants a quiet life now. He has become increasingly disappointed with the little amount of time he can spend with Perrie."

But it's not just Zayn who's been working on solo projects, with Liam and Harry also having penned a few tracks of their own.
