One Direction Join Typhoon Fundraiser

X Factor band are due to take part in a telethon for the victims today...

One Direction, the cast of Strictly Come Dancing have joined a number of celebrities to help raise money for the victims of the typhoon in the Philippines.

1D and Co are due to take part in the DEC Telethon - which will be held at London's BT Tower today (November 18) - in a bid to help those effected by Typhoon Haiyan, after the disaster left thousands dead and many more homeless when it struck last week.

The Jamie Oliver, BBC Radio 1's Gemma Cairney, Harry Potter's Alan Rickman, Downton Abbey's Joanne Froggatt and Allen Leech, plus comedian Stephen Merchant will all answer calls in the telethon.

Strictly professionals Karen Hauer and Natalie Lowe will also take part in the fundraiser.

Proceeds made from the telethon will help supply the 2.5 million survivors of the typhoon with food and shelter.

The public can call 0370 6060610 between 4pm and 7pm local time on Monday to make their donation, with a chance to speak to one of the many celebrities taking calls during the event.

The DEC appeal raised £23m ($37m) in the first 48 hours, and has since reached a total of £35m ($56m) overall.
