One Direction have beat out tough competition from the likes of Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande to nab the no. 1 spot on Billboard's 21 Under 21 list for 2013!

The list is described by Billboard as an "annual ranking of music's most powerful minors" and includes 21 young stars whose careers have gone from strength to strength over the course of the year.

The 1D lads have enjoyed a massive 12 months, pushing them into first place after ranking second in last year's list. The boys' second album Up All Night topped the charts in 35 countries and they are the only U.K. group in history to have their first two albums debut at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
