One Direction have reportedly signed individual publishing deals.

According to The Sun, Harry, Niall, Liam, Louis and Zayn have each set up separate deals with song publishing company Fingate - who look after the likes of Britney Spears and Foo Fighters.

A source told the tabloid: "This is a real statement of intent from the band.

"They have absolutely no intention of being spoon-fed pop puppets. They want to write and they want to earn as individuals."

The newspaper adds that the deals mean The X Factor group can write tunes for other artists, as well as material for their own solo careers.

It is thought that each 1D member has also set up a personal recording studio in their homes to work on new music.
