This Is Why Directioners Are Totally Amazing

#5YearsOfAwesomeness

We’re getting closer to the 2015 EMA in Milan, and one award in particular has caught our eyes this year – the gong for Biggest Fans.

With the votes already flooding in, we thought we’d take a look at last year’s winner – One Direction – and exactly what it is that makes their fans so special.

For 1D lovers it’s not just about volume, but also passion and solidarity. Whether it’s their almost constant creation and support of inspirational hashtags and trends or their backing of charity campaigns, Directioners really are the some of the most brilliant people in the world.

Action 1D

One Direction are fully aware of the amazing power of their fanbase, and so it’s no surprise that they encouraged their millions of devoted followers to engage with their contribution to Action 2015 and the fight to end world poverty, inequality and climate change.

The boys asked us all to speak up about issues we think matter, and share pics and videos on Twitter. The response was incredible, with over 70,000 submissions so far.

1D Fans Give

Back in 2013, a group of Directioners joined forces to create 1D Fans Give, a group that organises fundraisingfor loadsof charities. Two short years later they’ve managed to raise a crazy amount of money - over$100,000. Our minds are officially blown.

The money has to gone to everything from Doctors Without Borders to The Katie Piper Foundation. If that wasn’t enough, the fandom have also put together an art book, commemorating the band’s five year anniversary, and plan to split the proceeds between every single charity they’ve supported so far. We love it.

Hashtags

From the ridiculously long (but still very touching)#FromTheBottomOfTheStairsToTheTopOfTheWorld, to the hilariously childish #PiersMorganIsSmelly, Twitter is a very important part of being a Directioner.

Whether it’s protecting their boys from nasty TV presenters, celebrating their incredible successes or simply cheering them up on a bad day, Team Direction’s ability to make anything trend is their greatest superpower.

And it’s not only the band they support - they’re also always there for one another. When 1D superfan Caroline Richards passed away after a long battle with bone cancer, #RIPCaroline started trending worldwide almost immediately.

Gift The Fifth

As we all eagerly waited for that elusive fifth album (their first as a four piece, sob, we still miss you, Zayn) supporters launched the Fifth To A Millioncampaign, aiming to get the new album to one million sales in the first week.

The best part of the campaign though is the ‘Gift The Fifth’ element which allows you to gift the album to those who may not be able to afford it using a specially placed option on iTunes. Talk about sharing the love!
