These Excellent Movies Were Totally Pied By The Oscars #OscarsSoWhite

These are the snubbed movies you need to stream right now.

Will Smith,Jada Pinkett-Smith, Spike Lee and more are planning to boycott the Oscars this year – just have a look at the #Oscarssowhite hashtag on Twitter and you’ll probably agree with them.

Of all the nominees for the 2016 Academy Awards, not one black actor is nominated this year.

What’s more, in the entire 87 years the Oscars have been going, only 15 African Americans have won acting awards. In 87 years. 15 people. In 87 years.

HOW IS THIS EVEN A THING, right?

There have been 528 nominations in the entire history of the Oscars for the Best Picture category. And there has NEVER been a film nominated for it with an all-black cast.

Yeah, you’re right to feel pissed off.

Here’s the brills stuff that got totally snubbed by the Oscar nominations this year and which you should stream ASAP if you missed it in cinemas.

Tangerine

This indie film following two transgenderhookers around LA over one night is a lot more fun than that description makes it sound. And it was filmed entirely on an iPhone. Pushing the limits of filmmaking and reminding us that we all have the equipment to become talented movie directors right in our pockets. Though apparently not Oscar-nominated ones *unamused faceemoji*.

Creed

Michael B. Jordan’s new chapter of the Rocky series is brilliant – doing the iconic series proud, and bringing badassery and strong performances by its cast in the process. Jordan should’ve been nominated for Best Actor and Ryan Coogler should’ve got a nom for Best Director. They didn’t.

Dope

Funny, stylish and one of the best coming of age dramas of the year. Following the caper of a straight-A high school student who ends up in possession of some dodgy drugs, as if the movie wasn’t cool enough, it also stars Zoe Kravitz, Tyga, and A$AP Rocky.

Straight Outta Compton

The NWA biopic produced by Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Eazy-E's widow, Tomica Woods-Wright is nominated in one Academy Awards category: Best Original Screenplay. With excellent performances and taking home the Movie Of The Year title at this year’s American Film Institute awards, this iconic story was loved by audiences and critics and should’ve had a Best Picture nomination.

Beasts Of No Nation

It’s been called ‘one of the best films of 2015’ and ‘the Oscars most shocking Oscar snub’ – yet it didn’t get ONE Academy Award nomination. Idris Elba and Abraham Atta, who won Best Young Actor at the Venice Film Festival for his starring role as a child soldier, were totally snubbed for acting nominations at this year’s Oscars. Check it out on Netflix and see what all the fuss is about for yourself.

See You Again - Wiz Khalifa

Can you name a movie soundtrack this year which was played on a loopfor, like, all year? Erm, can you name a movie soundtrack this year at all? ‘Cos there’s not been ANYTHING more memorable than Wiz Khalifa’s 'Fast & Furious 7' tribute.
