Someone Made Their Own Map For Overwatch And What Happened Next Is Every Fan's Dream

We didn't know this could happen... Here are all the details.

If you've ever wondered if the people behind your favourite games stop to check out the fan-made maps, videos, and art all over the internet, the answer is: yes. Well, if you're an Overwatch fan, anyway.

Joshua Llorente, a Fine Arts Student from the Philippines, had teamed up with friends to create a custom Overwatch map based on Cairo, prompting Blizzard's Jeff Kaplan to drop them a quick line on Reddit, promising he'd "be in touch soon".

Designing a stunning night-time cityscape of the Egyptian city, the map - created in Unreal Engine 4 and Maya - took two months to make, and is packed with modern and traditional buildings and landmarks, and moulded specifically in Overwatch's distinct art style. It's amazing - here, see it for yourself:

Within a day of sharing the video on Reddit, Overwatch boss Kaplan popped up in the comments, stating: "Amazing work! We'll be in touch."

Exactly what Kaplan's getting in touch about remains to be seen. But whether it's a thank you, a job offer, or a promise of an adoption/adaptation of the map, it just goes to show that fan creations do get noticed by the people behind the games!

While we’re on the topic of fans working with their favourite companies and designers, did you read this super cute story of a student achieving his dreams and working for Nintendo?
