Foo Fighters Live At Oxegen Festival - Review
Punchestown Racecourse, Ireland - 9/07/11
Foo Fightersare half way through a year long world tour, resulting in hundreds of gig reviews online and in magazines. What speaks volumes for the band is that each write-up and fan reaction is as positive as the last, all speaking of amazing energy and maximum effort.
It was no different when the MTV UK team caught the Foos live at Punchestown Racecourse, Ireland, where they were headlining the mainstage on the first night of Oxegen Festival 2011.
Dave Grohl’s signature locks were soaked through within 10 minutes thanks to his sprinting across the stage and whirlwind guitar playing. Backed up as enthusiastically by Taylor, Nate, Chris and Pat – whose trademark smile grew even bigger when the heavens opened on the adoring crowd.
Nothing could dampen the spirit of the 60,000 people singing along to every single one of their anthems, with Best Of You receiving the loudest rendition.
Even though you suspect the banter between songs might have been the same the night before, and will probably be the same the night after, you don’t care.
In that moment you feel like you really could be mates with the band. A feeling heightened even more if, like us, you’ve seen their documentary Back and Forth.
For the record, their set list on the night was as follows:
1. Bridge Burning
3. The Pretender
4. My Hero
5. Learn to Fly
6. White Limo
9. Cold Day in the Sun
10. Long Road to Ruin
11. Stacked Actors
13. Monkey Wrench
14. Let It Die
15. These Days
16. Best of You
17. All My Life
19. Times Like These
20. Young Man Blues
21. Tie Your Mother Down
