Ding-ding, seconds out! That’s right, it’s round two in the ongoing battle between the Jaegers and the Kaiju, with a brand new trailer for upcoming sequel Pacific Rim Uprising. And yep, it’s as every bit as action-packed as you’d expect…

The new trailer introduces a few new faces into the mix, most notably everyone’s favourite sci-fi bae, John Boyega. He’ll be playing Jake Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba’s character from the first film, who’s stepping up to continue his father’s legacy.

From giant Kaiju skeletons to strobe-lit pool parties via the familiar robot / alien face-offs, the new film looks suitably spectacular, while Boyega is a welcome addition to the human side of things. Obviously we’re here for the city-flattening mayhem, but it’s important to have someone sufficiently lovable to really root for!

Directed by Steven S. DeKnight and co-starring Charlie Day, Scott Eastwood and Rinko Kikuchi, Pacific Rim Uprising will open in the UK on 23 March 2018.
