Panic! At The Disco Bring The Hits To Their Sold Out London Show

We sang every word to every song.

Selling out two nights at London’s Alexandra Palace is no mean feat and for Panic! At The Disco, as Brendon Urie pointed out, these are two of the biggest headline shows they’ve ever done. A pretty big deal, right?

Brendon is not only the band’s frontman, he’s also the only original member of the band left. After 12 years and multiple line-up changes, he has now become Mr Panic! At The Disco, writing and producing all the songs.

You’d think that having done the whole Panic! thing for 12 years that he would tire of tracks from their debut album 'A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out', released ten years ago back in 2006 (sorry, we didn’t mean to make you feel really old). However, ‘Time To Dance’ and the song that started it all, ‘I Write Sins Not Tragedies’, both featured in the hit-filled set and were performed with the same excitement as their newer tracks.

The set was pretty brief for a band with five albums, they performed for just under 90 minutes, but boy were those 90 minutes packed with hit after hit. We found ourselves shouting, ‘OMG THIS IS MY FAVE’ at the start of pretty much every song.

Keeping the songs fresh and exciting for a live audience seems to come so easily to a natural performer like Brendon. From insane backflips to his flawless falsetto moments (yes, he literally takes things up an octave when he fancies it), all eyes were glued to him throughout the entire show.

Highlights from the set included LGBTQ anthem ‘Girls/Girls/Boys’ and their now famous cover of Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, during which Brendon played the piano on a elevated platform overlooking the crowd - a truly special moment for all involved.

If people were already drawing on the similarities between Brendon’s stage persona and that of Freddie Mercury’s, this cover emphasises it as it’s one of the only covers of this song out there that seems to tastefully do it justice.

Overall, it was an absolute party from start to finish, even with the more emotional songs such as ‘This Is Gospel’, a song Brendon wrote for ex-band member Spencer Smith during his struggle with addiction, had an anthemic exuberance that had everyone in the crowd screaming the words.

They finished on ‘Victorious’ from their newest record, 'Death Of A Bachelor', and we think this sums up life for Panic! right now, and long may their victory continue.
