Paul Weller Live Review
Converse Represent at 100 Club, London - 01/08/12
Following support from Towns, 02:54, Japandroids and Spiritualized - who played a fantastic garage rock psyche-out set - the ridiculously youthful Paul Weller took the stage to a hero's welcome at London's 100 Club.
The heaving, sweat-drenched crowd were made up of all ages, including several multigenerational mod-families, and Weller held them in the palm of his hand from the opening bars of From The Floorboards Up to the closing Into Tomorrow.
Drawing heavily on his recent, and very decent, album Sonik Kicks, the immaculately turned out legend powered through an hour-long set which also included Jam classics Start! and In The City alongside solo standards such as The Changingman and a beautiful Broken Stones.
Displaying more energy than most acts half his age, Weller appeared genuinely enthused throughout the set, bouncing on the spot between songs and even giving a shout out to the day's other big winner, "fellow stylist" Bradley Wiggins.
Gold Mod-als all round.
